$12,000 on the work, and to ask you to be good enough to
convey to me your decision by telegraph. I may add that owing
to unforeseen delays in connection with some of the larger
works the Estimates for Public Works Extraordinary for 1903
will not be exceeded even if this work were entirely carried
out this year. In anticipation of your approval I have authoris-
ed a commencement to be made of the preliminary work at once,
which will not cost more than $1,000.
